Mulungush University has partnered with the National Housing Agency to put up some housing complex as a way of empowering Lectures with ownership of houses. The Lectures will have to pay back the total cost of construction of the houses at an interest rate of 15% within the 7 years payback period. The period of paying back will start from the month when the construction activity commerces through monthly deduction from their salaries. The construction period will take two years for the first 50 housing units. The area which has been proposed is the one near the main entrance to the main gate on the left side as you enter into Mulungushi main campus. The land belongs to Mulungushi University and its on title. The proposed number of houses for the first phase is 50 three bedroom houses with the master room self-contained. There is limited land which will accommodated only a total of about 100 Housing units. The housing units should come with Sewerage and water infrastructure inclusive of water treatment and waste disposal facilities. The area has a high water table but the ground water is contaminated with lead. The source of raw water will be Mulungshi River and the treated waste water must be discharged into the River. The water in the river looks greenish. As a Resident Engineer for the University, you have been appointed to be the project manager for the project. Your tasks will involve coming up with the preliminary design, advice management on the construction activities and procedure and to produce monthly progress reports. Therefore; a) What would you advice management to consider undertaking before the implementation of the project and the stages involved before approval by the relevant authority? (7 Marks) b) Propose a preliminary design for the disposal facility that can be used by the 100 households and what design consideration should be taken into account? (10 Marks) c) Propose the wastewater treatment facility with clear systematic diagram and detailed explanation showing the treatment process which should be constructed and give reason for proposing such kind of a treatment process? d) Propose a water treatment facility which can be used for the treatment of water with clear labeled systematic diagrams as you give your explanation?
