My current problem statement is as follows: It is not known if or to what extent there is a difference in symptoms and barriers to seeking treatment and support between male and female medical residents impacted by the second victim phenomenon (SVP). The problem statement initially included a focus on institutional support, but feedback I received in an assignment facilitated reflection on the research question that resulted in the removal. Keeping it in the problem statement made it appear as a separate topic, which conflicted with my research focus. I have chosen to pursue a quantitative methodology based upon a few specific justifications. Quantitative research compares two groups in an objective manner (Muijs, 2011), and comparing male and female medical residents is the objective in my dissertation. The quantitative research approach also collects a large amount of data to generalize the results to a larger population (Greenberger, 2022, p. 17). Surveys are a technique commonly used in quantitative research to efficiently collect large volumes of data and analyze it to determine differences (Muijs, 2011). I intend to use a validated survey to collect information from medical residents to determine if differences exist. Statistical analysis provides an objective method to test
