in regards to material purchase variances, and material usage variances for a product, is this calculated individually for each material ? in relation to the product

as well as each individual material variance in price cost? or is it done as whole? for example the whole cost of all materials together, or the usage of all materials together? i'm a bit confused its for an assignment
