My Virtual Child's name is Minenhle W.
- Parenting Style- What is your parenting style (authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, or disengaged)? How has your parenting style been influenced by your race/ethnicity? (If you tell me that race/ethnicity did not affect your parenting, you will not receive points. Race/ethnicity dictates values. Put some thought into this.) Did your parenting style change at all over time? Give five examples of parenting decisions you made based on your parenting style.
- Temperament - In which category does your child's temperament fit (easy, complex, or slow-to-warm up)? Also, describe them based on the 5- temperament traits in the MVC program (Activity, Sociability, Emotionality, Aggressiveness, and Self-Control).
- Attachment Style - What is your child's Attachment Style (secure, insecure-avoidant, insecure-resistant, or disorganized-disoriented)? Give two examples of your child's behavior that reveal your child's attachment style. Provide two examples of ways you responded to your child that led to developing your child's attachment style. How did your child's temperament help or hinder the growth of a secure attachment style?
- Personality- Is your child's personalitycategoryovercontrolled, undercontrolled, or resilient? Give two specific personality traits to explain. Was your child's personality predictable from their infant temperament?
- Goodness-Of-Fit- Regarding goodness-of-fit, how compatible were your and your child's temperaments/personalities? How did this affect your relationship?
- Gene-Environment Interaction - Provide one example of an evocative gene-environment interaction, one example of a passive gene-environment interaction, and one example of an active gene-environment interaction you witnessed on MVC. (Reviewing these concepts in your textbook can refresh your memory on these interactions.)
- Challenges- What challenges did your child face-- one from each age range: from birth to age 5, from 5+ until the onset of puberty, and then during/after puberty? Why do you think these challenges occurred, and what did you do about them?
- Unexpected Events - What unexpected events occurred during raising your child? How did you handle them? How did the event and your response to the event impact your child's developmental trajectory?
- Outcome Expectations- Explain, with at least three specific examples, how you expected your child to turn out before completing the MVC program. Did your child turn out as you expected? If yes, to what do you attribute your fulfilled expectations for your child's development? If not entirely, what was different? Why do you think that happened?
- Control- How much of your child's development was under your control as a parent? (Did you have almost total control, a good deal of control, some control, minimal control, or no control?) To what do you attribute the level of control you believe you had? How did this change over time?
- Learning & Implementation- What were three things you learned about parenting from the experience of completing this program? Explain how you hope to apply what you learned to your own life as a caretaker/parent or in a professional life where you may work with children and families.
