Native communities continue to experience violence across the United States. One issue of importance is the missing or murder indigenous persons. The federal government has attempted to address this disturbing historical trend in Indian country by passing the Tribal Law and Order Act of 2010 and the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Reauthorization 2013 and 2022. Why is the federal government responsible for the missing and murder indigenous persons? What do these laws seek to address? How can these laws be effective and serve Indian Country an indigenous people?
