Near the beginning of the movie E.T. the Extra-terrestrial there are some scenes with the Moon visible in the sky. In the first scene it is shortly after sunset and the Moon is visible as a crescent near the horizon. A few scenes later we are back to the same viewpoint but now it is late at night and again the Moon is visible. The Moon's position in both scenes is illustrated below. What is wrong with this?
