As of the most recent estimates, the poverty rate of New Castle County is 10.1% (U.S. Census Bureau, n.d.). The median household income, in 2022 dollars, is $85,309 (U.S. Census Bureau, n.d.). Lastly, the per capita income is believed to be around $44,725 (U.S. Census Bureau, n.d.). These numbers did not surprise me at all. I work for the Food Bank of Delaware, so I am very familiar with the income and poverty rate of the county I work in. Honestly, it would be quite difficult for me to determine the level of poverty in my county. I would probably utilize questionnaires to create a database that would help attain a picture of the poverty rate.
