A lake contains 1000 fishes of species A and 2000 fishes of species B and no other fish. 10 fishes are taken from the lake at random. Explain why the probabilities of obtaining various number of fish of species A in the ten can be very well approximated by a binomial probability distribution, and hence estimate to 3 significant figures, the probability of obtaining 4 fishes of species A and 6 of species B. Estimate also to 3 significant figures the probability that in a catch of 5 fishes all together there are more fishes of species A than there are of species B. [Ans: 0.228, 0.210]
