Need explanation, answers, six step hypothesis test, minitap answers and instructions
A student is trying to decide if he should take MTH 174 from Mr. Danforth or Mr. Draper. He
samples students who have taken the course from both instructors and asks then to share their
final grades. These results are displayed below.
Mr. Draper:
72 78 82 65 88 92 96 45 80
Mr. Danforth:
62 58 88 90 96 78 87 45 38 55
a) In order to determine if there is a difference between the mean course grades of the two
instructors it needs to be known if the variability is the same (in order to know if the variance should be pooled).
Use Minitab to test whether the variances are equal. You do not have to show the full six steps for the test, but you should copy and paste the Minitab results and then
state whether the variances are concluded to be equal or unequal. Use = 0.05.
b) Test at the 5% significance level whether there is a difference in the course averages of
students who take the course from the two instructors. Include all six steps.
c) Use Minitab to generate a 95% confidence interval for the mean difference in the course
averages of students who take MTH 174 from the two instructors. Is the confidence interval
consistent with the results of the hypothesis test in part b)?
