5. -8 Points - XYZ Worldwide plans to manufacture its new line of tablets at a plant in Northeastern Wisconsin. It has determined that it must produce 320 tablets per 8 -hour day to meet the forecasted demand for the product. Use line balancing and the information below to create a simple product layout for the manufacturing plant. Answer the questions below and show your work just as we did in the line balancing examples. Note: The precedence diagram is shown in a separate pdf file also. Using the previously caleulated Cycle Time, assign tasks to work atations using the Greatest Number of Followers Rule. Note: In the case of a tie, the task with the longest task time should be assigned first to a workstation. Calculate the required Cycle Time per unit. If you calculate a fractional value, round up to an integer value. Cycle Time = Operating Time per Day/Desired Output Rate Note: Operating Time must be converted to the same time units as task times. Cycle Time =8 hr =28800 secs 28800secs/320 tablets =90 Calculate the Theoretical Minimum Number of Workstations. Theoretical Minimum Number of WS = Sum of Task Times/Cycle Time Note: To avoid being short processing capacity, the number of workstations must always be rounded up. Theoretical Minimum =181/90=2,01 so 3 workstations
