DUPONT - CONOCO YOU DECIDE GUIDELINES AND RUBRIC RUBRIC & GENERAL GUIDELINES ON THE YOU DECIDE The course standard is for 8 - 10 pages (Double Spaced). Here is what I am looking for in 8 - 10 pages: 1. One page Executive Summary (This is the first page after the cover page, and the cover page is optional; the covert page is not part of the 8 - 10 page requirement.) (25 points) 2. Five - seven pages of Analysis, and this should include two - three pages of Financial Analysis. The recommendation of this You Decide is coming from the CFO. (90 points) 3. One page of Conclusion Section, which sums up all of your Analysis and where you can state your own conclusions in 20/20 hindsight about both DuPont and Conoco. This is at the end, just before the Bibliography. (10 points) 4. Half to one page of Bibliography. (10 points) 5. Again, the Executive Summary must be in sentence and short paragraph format, and it should summarize your whole paper on one page. You should write your Executive Summary last after your paper is completed. However, the Executive Summary is posted in front of the paper, just after the cover page. SPECIFIC GUIDELINES RE WEEK 5 YOU DECIDE !!! Class, here are some specific guidelines for the DuPont - Conoco You Decide: 1. You are writing this report as the CFO of DuPont; therefore, there must be some financial analysis ( 2 - 3 pages) of the 5 - 7 pages of the analysis section in your report. You are welcome to include SWOT and some financial analysis in your other 5 - 7 pages of analysis. 2. The main question in this case is the following: Was it wise decision by DuPont to acquire Conoco in a competitive bid in 1981. Buying oil companies was a \"fad\" at that time with rising oil prices and OPEC. Please note to acquire 100% control of any publicly traded company, especially in a competitive bid, the buyer is paying a large premium over market value of the company. It may have been wiser for DuPont to acquire 4-5% ownership of several oil companies to have a hedge on rising oil prices. 4. As discussed in my summary of the DuPont - Conoco Relationship History, Conoco was very well managed as a wholly owned subsidiary of DuPont; however, DuPont's Price Earnings Multiple was lower than other major chemical companies. Conoco earnings were not stable. 5. By 1998-1999, DuPont also identifies biosciences as a major growth sector, where it wants to grow. Therefore, it decides to sell Conoco. 6. For other general guidelines of your paper, use the same general guidelines as the Week 3 You Decide: Executive Summary ( 1 page), Analysis ( 5 - 7 pages), Conclusions ( page), Bibliography ( - 1 page). 7. I posted summary financial data on DuPont and Conoco. You are welcome to use these for ratio analysis. What is DuPont Price Earnings Ratio? What percent of Consolidated DuPont Revenues and Net Income is Conoco contributing? 8. It is easier to take the Historical Analysis perspective in your Analysis where you can do some SWOT analysis of DuPont before the Conoco Acquisition, and some financial analysis from the posted numbers. Then you can discuss the wisdom of the two stage IPO & \"Spin-Off.\" 9. Please Note: Do Not post major sections of financial tables as pages of your financial analysis
