Imagine yourself leading your platoon, soldiers running into a warzone, ready to give up their lives, but for what? For you, their leader, an embodiment of strength and courage for the country! Only great leaders can bring those who respect and follow them to victory. I believe great leaders are made because one can be taught the characteristics of a leader, attributes, competences, and are influenced by the people who raise and support them.

One may say that an individual needs to born as a leader in order to be good with management and lead people. However, that is completely false anyone with motivation can be taught to lead. People are not born into leadership but instead dedicate time and arduous work to govern their subordinates and followers efficiently. Just because someone does not appear to be a leader outwardly does not mean they cannot develop leadership skills through a leader training program, and education. (ADP 6-22, 2019) establishes and describes the Army profession and the associated ethic that serve as the basis for a shared professional identity.

We are not born to be leaders, there is no possible way to tell if their future is as a leader or a follower. Instead, people are strongly influenced throughout their lives by friends, family, and leaders that lead them to where they want to be. As Soldiers, we try to mimic the people around us and determine what is right and wrong. Leadership skills are not given but developed from the time you graduate from Basic Combat Training (BCT) through the time you become a Non-Commissioner Officer (NCO). To prepare Army leaders to fulfill their responsibilities, the Army profession develops Soldiers and Army civilians who demonstrate character, competence, and commitment through career-long training, education, and experience.

The job of leading an organization, military unit, and doing so effectively, is fantastically complex. To expect that a person would be born with all the tools needed to lead just does not make sense based on what we know about the complexity of social groups and processes. According with The Army an Army leader An Army leader is anyone who by virtue of assumed role or assigned responsibility inspires and influences people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish the mission and improve the organization (ADP 6-22,2019). We the Leadership are became the ones to build the Army future leaders executing the Army leader definition. If leaders can be developed and improve their leadership capabilities, you can start identifying and training up leaders today.

Therefore, great leaders are not born but instead made because an individual can be taught to become a strong leader and are influenced by the people around them during his early years. An individual does not have to be the best to be a leader. People are not fixed to be a leader or a follower from birth but can build one's skills and use the influence of others around them to be lead a group. We can choose to accept our fate as a follower or leader, or we can choose to grow to become the leaders that influence the Army of the future. Which do you choose?
