Nesli is a flight engineer at Liverpool Airport—it is her job to check cargo jets prior to take-off to ensure that they are safe.

One morning, Nesli is told to carry out a pre-flight check on a Boeing 747 bound for Barcelona. She checks the flight manifest and sees that this particular flight will be piloted by Sophie. There will only be two people on board: Sophie and the co-pilot Nigel. Upon reading Sophie's name on the flight manifest, Nesli becomes irate. A few days ago, she discovered that Sophie had been sleeping with her husband, Eddie. Nesli decides that she is going to get her own back on Sophie by sabotaging both of the aeroplane engines' fuel systems. 

As Sophie and Nigel are flying over the channel, both of the plane's engines fail and they crash into the sea. Nigel hits his head and dies on impact, but Sophie—who spends two days floating on the plane's broken wing—survives.

Nesli is charged with Nigel's murder and argues that she did not intend to kill or seriously harm him.
