New York City is extremely diverse. Immigration in New York City has helped to make the city grow to a total of 8.34 million people as of 2012. Three million of these New Yorkers were born outside of the United States, and nearly half of New Yorkers speak a non-English language at home. These New Yorkers come from all around the world and have had a huge impact on the racial and ethnic diversity of New York City.
