NJOI (Individual Journal of Opportunities & Ideas):

develop your own approach. In order to develop your own approach, you will likely want to experiment a bit and you may want to vary your approach depending on the problem or opportunity youre tackling in your entry:

1-

  • How would 3-4 different stakeholder groups view the problem (e.g., customers, employees, suppliers, competitors, distributors, environmentalists, etc.)? Consider each groups view of the problem/ opportunity.
  • What are some of the major assumptions youre making about the problem or opportunity? What if you could change or overcome some of these assumptions?
  • What would you have if you solved the problem that you dont have now?
  • What would it take to solve the problem or make it go away?

2-Provide a clear statement of the problem or opportunity

3-Generate as many possible solutions for addressing the problem or opportunity.

4-Try not to screen out ideas: dont worry if theyre not feasible, too expensive, silly/crazy, and so forth. Write them down and they may help you generate additional ideas that ultimately lead you to a really good idea or solution. This may be difficult at first so push yourself to come up with at least 15-20 possibilities for dealing with your specific problem or opportunity statement. Over time, this should become much easier and you may even have many more ideas than this

5-Take your most interesting, feasible or promising idea and see if you can make it more feasible or doable for you

6-State the idea or solution you finally develop.
