Non fatal offences against the person, OAPA 1861

The village of Trumpton is holding its annual village fete.John, Rupert and Edgar, three notorious local trouble-makers, decide to attend.

At the fete, Dinarta is in charge of the coconut stand. Dinarta and John are neighbours and John always picks on her. Dinarta is just placing the last coconut on its stand when John picks up a wooden ball and pretends to throw it at Dinarta, saying, 'If there weren't so many children about, I'd throw this at you!' Dinarta shouts, 'Stop it!' She picks up a coconut and throws it at John. John ducks and the coconut hits Rupert in the face causing bruising.

Earlier, Edgar had placed a bucket of bricks above a doorway in the House of Horrors, which had been set up in the village hall. He has balanced the bricks precariously so that they will fall as soon as the door is opened. Feeling guilty, Edgar rushes back to the House of Horrors to take down the bucket of bricks. As he rushes in, he sees Mary is about to open the door with the bricks over it.Edgar shouts, 'Don't open it!'but Mary opens the door and the bricks fall on her. She is not physically injured but very shocked. She is diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and takes five days leave from work.

Advise the parties as to their criminal liability, if any.
