MEDIA PAPER

Technology is regularly presented as a plot device in movies, tv shows, and other fictional media, while news and nonfiction entertainment often seek to explain tech and other issues to no experts.

Choose two pieces of entertainment, whether movies, tv episodes, books or other, which attempt to address tech or use tech as a plot device. The two works should be comparable in some way, either addressing the same technology issue in different ways, or addressing two different issues from the same perspective. If selecting a work you have already seen, be sure to watch again, with a critical eye toward the topics in this course.

Comment on how the use of tech in entertainment media affects the reporting of tech on news and nonfiction. Cite sources where appropriate.

Comment on the state of technology at the time the media was produced. How does then-current technology affect the narrative of technology as a plot device. How do technology-themed media age as technology develops.

As a rough guideline, this paper should be 3-4 pages, or about 1500 words.
