Now let's apply this technique to astronomy. The photographs below were taken from Earth in January and July (6 months apart), and show the same region of the sky at these two times. The bright star in the upper left of the first image is the star whose parallax we're measuring. For reference, the images are 1 arcsecond wide (1 degree = 60 arcminutes = 3600 arcseconds).
