Now say that the country has fallen into chaos.  There’s violence in the street and a pandemic has swept the nation.  Strangely enough, tough times have also killed the nickel.  It no longer exists as valid currency.  Use the cashier’s algorithm to make change using quarters, dimes, and pennies (but no nickels) for each of the amounts given.  Additionally, for each amount, tell whether the cashier’s algorithm uses the least number of coins to form the amount (still without the possibility of nickels)and if the cashier’s algorithm does not use the least number of coins, what would the least number of coins be to form this amount (which still cannot involve nickels).

a)  87 cents.

b)  49 cents.

c)  99 cents.

d)  33 cents.
