1. Now that you've read a few articles from Scientific American (and read about genre analysis), describe the genre expectations of a research article published in Scientific American:
   1. What do the articles look like on the page/screen? Do these articles use section headings? Do they incorporate visuals (charts, graphs, photos, etc.)? How are design elements like color, font, and spacing used?
   2. What does the introduction typically include? Does it provide a hook, context/background, and/or a thesis? Where and how is credibility established?
   3. What do the body paragraphs typically include? What type of evidence is used? How is this evidence incorporated and cited? What sort of content is included and how is it organized? What rhetorical moves are often used?
   4. What does the conclusion typically include? Does it tie back to the thesis, summarize or reinforce ideas, and/or list questions or gaps for further research?
   5. How formal is the writing? Do you see appeals to pathos, or just ethos and logos? Is it written in first or third person?
