OBJECTIVE: Working in your assigned groups, students will research and complete a short "briefing note" advising the Prime Minister (PM) on the most recent free trade agreement with Mexico and United States called the USMCA. Please use the headings and format below. PRODUCT: This one-page briefing note should provide guidance to the PM on the history of US/Canada/Mexico trade agreements, the main issues discussed in the new USMCA, and what should be negotiated into the next trade agreement. Make sure your answers are detailed with specific references to articles (two minimum). Please use the following briefing note format as your outline: 1. Introduction: Briefly, state the history of trade agreements between Canada, USA and Mexico. Identify when the new USMCA started negotiations and when it was signed by Canada. Describe which Canadian, US and Mexican officials and departments were involved with the negotiations. (This section is no longer than one paragraph) 2. Problem Analysis: Part A - In this section, students need to identify what three major issues were important to Canada and why they were important to Canadians. Part B - Students will then rank these issues in order of importance, based on their potential short or long-term implications (both positive and negative) of the new USMCA on Canada's economy. (This section should not be longer than two paragraphs) 3. Recommendations and Conclusions: Finally, students will advise the PM if this was a fair deal for Canada and why or why not. Also, advise the PM on what to negotiate into the next possible trade agreement with US and Mexico. (This section should be no longer than one paragraph)
