Objective: You have a wooden plank that has uniform dimensions that you need to turn into a square wooden frame. Materials: All you have is the plank, a handsaw, a very long section of string, a pencil, a standard size sheet of notebook paper, scissors, a hammer and some nails. Because of the thickness of the plank, if you simply cut the plank into four equal length sections and assemble them as shown to the right, then the lengths along the four outside edges will not be the same. (The outside length and width have to be the same when you are finished. Note: the outside of the frame must be a square when you are done, but the inside of the frame does not have to be a square.) Part A You need to find two different ways to construct the frame (using only the items included above) so that the outside length along each side is the same, while using the entire amount of wood. By this I mean that you can't have any left over pieces that get cut off and not used. Note: since you will not have to actually make the cuts in the board in real life you will not have to worry about your actual ability (or lack thereof) to use a handsaw to cut the board. Part B Using the string you can easily verify that each of the four sides is the same length along the outside of the frame. What you need to do for part B is to find two different ways that you can verify that the sides of the frame are connected to each other at right angles.
