OBJECTIVES: 1) Draw the field lines for various configurations of charges, using the equipotential lines. 2) Verify that a conductor in the electric field is an equipotential surface and the electric field inside is zero MATERIALS: 6 V batteries (square) Simpson voltmeter Voltage divider Pins Conductive paper (a set of 6 different electrode shapes) Cork board surface Graphic paper EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE: PART 1: Electric Field Mapping 1. Turn the field mapping board over and screw the parallel plate electrode configuration onto the underside of the electric field apparatus board (See Fig 1) 2. Connect the potential source (battery) to the appropriate binding post ("Bat") located on the upper side of the board. (See Fig 2) 3. Carefully slide the U-shaped probe onto the mapping board looking for points with the same electric potential. 4. Repeat step 6 looking for a new voltage. You should draw at least 5 equipotential lines between the two electrodes. 5. Draw on the paper the equipotential lines and represent the electric field lines. RESULTS ANALYSIS: 1.1. Attach the photo of the paper with equipotential lines 1.2 How are the equipotential lines?. 1.3.How the potential changes from the to the negative electrode? 1.4. What is the direction of the vector: Electrostatic Field Intensity PART 2. ELECTRIC FIELD INSIDE OF A CONDUCTOR. 2.1 Repeat the procedure to a Faraday "Ice Pail" and attach photo of a paper 2.2. How are the equipotential lines around the positive electrode? 2.3. How is the potential inside the pail? 2.3. How is the electric Field inside the pail? Explain! CONCLUSIONS: Critical analysis about the fulfillment of each objective 1) 2) Errors
