Obtaining Personally Identifiable Information Through Internet Research[WLOs: 1, 2] [CLOs: 1, 2]

Prior to beginning work on this learning activity, review Chapters 1, 2, and 3 in the textbook, and then complete Lab 2: Obtaining Personally Identifiable Information Through Internet Research.

Each lab has a similar format, including introductory materials, step-by-step instructions for lab completion, and instructions for completing the required deliverables or challenge activities. Within the lab environment, you will always have access to the Common Lab Tasks file to remind you how to complete these elements.

Once you have completed the labs, you will submit the lab report to Waypoint for grading. If you use the Internet in some of your research, please make sure to follow APA Style Links to an external site. as outlined by UAGC.

Upon completion of this lab, you are required to provide the following deliverables to your instructor:

• SECTION 1:
  • Lab report file including screen captures of the following:
    • The URL and content of the site for at least four results displayed more personal information than you expected to find.
  • Any additional information as directed by the lab:
    • Document the total number of search results for your email address.
    • Estimate the number of search results that appear to be associated with you.
    • Document the number of Facebook accounts that appeared on the results page.
    • Record whether or not the account you searched for was found, and the type of personal information available without logging into Facebook.
    • Document the number of profiles that appeared on the LinkedIn results page.
    • Record whether or not the account you searched for was found, and the type of information available from this view.
    • Compare the privacy policy for Facebook, Linked ln, and Twitter.
    • Describe how the results of this exercise differed from your expectations, and explain what steps you might take to limit the amount of your personal information that is available on the Internet.
