As a construction company, one of the main work activities of the workers of JHB Incorporated is building pavements, pathways and such structures for homes and larger organisations. This activity requires the use of cement or concrete mixers to create concrete, which may then be poured into slabs and laid out in the necessary pattern or layout once it has set. Depending on the size and complexity of the pathway needing to be created, JHB Incorporated has concrete mixing transport trucks, as well as portable concrete mixers which supervisors or managers may decide on. However,regardless of the size and type of the concrete mixer, as a result of the mixing process a considerable amount of dust is produced, which workers are aware of and implement control measures for. If exposed to cement dust, workers may experience mild skin irritation, which may develop into a skin condition where the skin thickens over time. It is also possible for workers to inhale the dust, which could cause lung cancer or a condition called silicosis after prolonged exposure. Therefore, all JHB Incorporated workers who work or come into contact with cement mixers are required to wear personal protective equipment such as face masks, and safety goggles, to reduce the associated effects.
