of participants is a case in the SPSS data file and has scores on two variables: the score obtained on the measure by one participant under one condition and the score obtained on the same measure by the other participant under a different condition. The purpose of matched-subjects designs is to evaluate whether the pairs of participants differ signicantly under the two conditions. In the McNeInar test the variables have two categories. This test evaluates whether the proportion of participants who fall into a category on one variable differs significantly from the proportion of participants who fall into the same category on the second variable. Assumptions: 1] Each pair of observations must represent a random sample from a population and must be independent of every other pair of observations; 2) The a test yields relatively accurate results to the sample size is large. The McNemar test is a disguised binomial test. An exact p value is computed if there are fewer than 26 nontied paired scores relevant for the computation of the binomial test (Le. not the total number of paired scores]; otherwise, a :- approximation test is calculated
