Oil Kansas produces different types of refined products: gasoline, diesel fuel, and asphalt base. Each of these materials requires the following production times to produce 10 tons from any of the four different production towers (A, B, C and D), as set out in the table below. Table 1: Production time in hours A B Gasoline 7 8 14 Diesel fuel 12 9 7 Asphalt base D 8 11 8 8 7 9 Production times of 4,000, 5,000, 5500, and 6,000 hours are available in each of the four refinery towers (A, B, C and D), respectively. The profit of selling one ton of gasoline, diesel fuel asphalt base is 1500, 750 and 390, respectively. With the current pandemic getting contained, Oil Kansas BOT feels the need to increase the production to meet increasing demand. 1. A second working shift can be added with an additional cost of 450 dollars/shift in each of the four towers (A, B, C and D) that would add 1500, 2500, 1700, and 2000 hours in production time, respectively. 2. In addition, apart from a second shift, an extra third shift can be used which costs 750 dollars/shift in tower (A and D) and 700 dollars/shift in tower (B and C). The extra shift would add 1500, 2000, 1500 and 1000 hours in production time, respectively. However, the third production shift could only be used, if the respective second shift was used. In a recent board meeting, the Company management has set the following goal: G1: meet a production of 90000 tons of Gasoline G2: meet a production of 49000 tons of diesel fuel G3: meet a production of 37000 tons of asphalt base G4: not to exceed a total amount 9000 additional production hours. Furthermore Oil Kansas would like to know what priority level should be considered that would best benefit the company. The board requested from you to prepare a report for the next meeting identifying the best course of actions that are needed to be taken. Formulate a Goal programming GP model. Implement this model in spread sheet and solve it. Oil Kansas produces different types of refined products: gasoline, diesel fuel, and asphalt base.
