On 30 June 2020 Petal Ltd acquired all assets (except for cash) of Rose Ltd. At this date, the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities of Rose Ltd were: Cash $20,000 Accounts payable $18,000 Building 210,000 Bank loan 80,000 Accumulated 90,000) Share capital ($2 220,000 depreciation shares) Land 204,000 Retained earnings 96,000 Brand "No more 70,000 thorns" The assets and liabilities of Rose Ltd are at fair value except for: land, which has a fair value of $216,000; and building, which has a fair value of $110,000. In exchange for these net assets, Petal Ltd agreed to: issue three (3) Petal Ltd shares for every five (5) shares in Rose Ltd. On 30 June 2020 Petal Ltd shares were valued at $4.50 transfer a small block of land. On acquisition date the land has a fair value of $50,000 (carrying amount in Petal Ltd accounts $40,000). provide sufficient additional cash in order for Rose Ltd to pay out liabilities and liquidation costs of $3,500. After recording all assets acquired, and any arising out of the combination, management of Petal Ltd will assess the new business (Rose Division) as a cash generating unit (CGU) for impairment testing purposes. Required: a) Prepare an acquisition analysis for Petal Ltd's acquisition of Rose Ltd on 30 June 2020. (10 marks) On 31 December 2020, management of Petal Ltd believed that due to the impact of economic restrictions being imposed by the government, that Rose Division's assets were impaired. Management calculated a recoverable amount for the CGU to be $370,000. Additional information Petal Ltd assigns any goodwill arising from a business combination to the division that has been acquired. Petal Ltd had recorded 6 months of depreciation on the building acquired in the Rose Division. On 31 December 2020 the building has a carrying amount of $100,000. All other assets acquired in Rose Division have a carrying amount equal to the fair values recorded on 30 June 2020 Required: b) Calculate impairment loss for Rose Division and record the necessary journal entry.
