On a cold winter day, Maya slipped on the icy sidewalk at the entrance to Wes's shop. Maya injured her ankle as a result of the fall, and Wes hired a taxi to take Maya to the hospital to have her injured ankle examined. On the way to the hospital another vehicle collided with the taxi, and Maya was seriously injured.The injured ankle was the proximate cause of Maya's more serious injury in the automobile accident because Wes had hired the taxi to send her to the hospital.
