On a month-to-month lease, Ben rented a locker in which to store his goods for almost four years. The lease specified Ben could terminate the lease at any point if he gave the managers of the facility fifteen days advance notice. Ben arrived at the office on 15 March, and informed the person behind the counter that he would cease the lease on 31 March, the end of the month. The person noted that, and told Ben to be sure to empty and clean the locker. Ben received a bill from the locker company in April stating his payment was past due, and there was also a fee for late payment. Ben explained what happened to the company, but the company owners said the person behind the counter had been a relative who did not have authority to take termination notices. Explain why Ben is liable (or not)?
