On danuary 1, 2017, a number of concemed people organized a not-for-profit organiztion named the Cheakamus River Protection Society to work to protect the emvironment in and around the cheakarnus River. The organization was incorporated under the BC Societies Aat. The organization has two primary mandates which are education activities fi.e. the provision of education programs to increase awareness of the plant and animal life in the river basin and the promotion of policies and practices to protect that plant and animal life) and cleanup activities (i.e., the removal of litter and other debris from the river and its baniss). The society has decided to use the restricted fund method of accounting, with an operating fund, restricted funds for each of the primary mandates and an endowment fund. On January 1, 2017, initial funding was provided from an endowment contribution of $500,000 from one of the members. The funds were immediately invested in fixed interest securities which produced investment income of $27,000 during 2017. The donor specified that the investment income was to be used first to prevent erosion of the purchasing power of the endowment by inflation with any additional interest being used as the directors determined. Inflation in the local area was 2.5% for 2017. Unrestricted contributions were received during the year in the amount of $477,000 with an additional $120,000 in unrestricted pledges receivable at the end of the year. It is expected that 95% of the pledges will be honoured by the donors. A further $144,000 was received that was restricted to the education activities organized by the 50 ciety and $56,000 was received that was restricted to the cleanup activities, Interest income from the temporary investment of unrestricted donations amounted to $10,000 for the year. Interest income from the investment of donations restricted to education programs amounted to $6,000 and investment income from the investment of donations restricted to cleanup programs amounted to $4,000. There were no temporary investments at the end of the year. During 2017 , the organization incurred and paid for the following expenses: For both the cleanup activities and the education activities, all of the cost of materials used and half of the miscellaneous expenses were paid from the related restricted contributions. Required: a) Prepare journal entries to record the transactions for the Cheakamus River Protection Society for the year ended December 31,2017. b) Prepare the statement(s) of Financial Position and statementis) of Operations for the society for 2017
