On October 1, 2017 there was a mass shooting in Las Vegas.Stephen Paddock rented a room at the Mandalay Bay (an MGM resort) on the Las Vegas Strip, checking in on September 25, 2017.Four days later, he rented the connecting room as well.He spent most of his time gambling and interacted with employees many times, including at least twice the day of the shooting.He brought FIVE suitcases to his room on September 25, seven on the 26th, two on the 28th, six on the 30th and two on Oct. 1.On September 30, he placed "Do not disturb" signs on the doors of both rooms.On Oct. 1, between 10:05 pm and 10:15 pm he fired more then 1,000 rounds of ammunition from his 32nd floor room into a crowd attending a concert.He killed 61 people and wounded 411.On October 3, 2019, MGM Resorts reached a settlement of $800 million with the victims of the shooting, which was approved by the judge on September 30, 2020.What impact will the settlement have on the hospitality industry? For Example, are hotels now liable for actions of their guest if they have little to no prior warning of a danger?Are hotels now expected to inspect rooms and or luggage?If so, does this impact a guests right to privacy?
