• Once you have found the case, please read it, then brief it using IRAC
• Issue: What is the main legal issue the court is addressing? Identification generally requires only one substantive sentence.
  • Should be a "whether or not" statement.
• Rule: What rule of law is the court examining for the identified issues. Tell us what the rule is, and provide some detail. The judge will explain the rule...you just need to synthesize it into your own rule statement.
  • Your rule section should be one substantive paragraph.
• Application. Here, you apply the facts to the case to the rule of law. Tell your reader, succinctly, the facts of the case.
  • What did, or didn't, the parties do. Then apply the rule of law to the facts.
• Conclusion. Did the judge find for the plaintiff or defendant? Explain the judge's rationale in one paragraph.
