• one description of a criminal defendant with some mental illness; any crime and any illness is ok. The description should be at least 2 paragraphs long, but more is probably better. The description can include characteristics of the person, their background, their mental illness, and characteristics of the crime that was committed, and the reasons for committing the crime. You can use some real-life case as inspiration, or make up your own case, whichever is easiest for you. Write the scenario so that that is some doubt about whether the defendant is or is not competent, or was or was not insane. I have posted one long example case in the Discussion. At the end of your description, poseoneof the following questions: (1)What should be done to assess the defendant's competence to stand trial? or (2) What should be done to assess whether the defendant was insane at the time of the crime?
