One of my neighbors is planning a major yard renovation. She wants to re-seed her entire lawn, and fence the two sides and back of her yard. Here an overhead view of her house and yard.Using the picture scale from Google maps, I estimated the dimensions of her yard and house.

For the lawn, she has selected this grass seed.In case you cannot read it, one bag covers 1,200 square feet of area, and costs $12 (close enough for our purposes).

For the fencing, she has selected a nice cedar pre-made panels that are each 8 feet long. Each panel costs $57.

Help my neighbor out - figure out how much grass seed and how many fence panels she needs to buy, and how much the materials are going to cost her.SEE ASSIGNMENT BELOW.

ASSIGNMENT

Record your answer on the Whole Number Graded Activity (located on the Blackboard platform.

(1) How much grass seed is needed to cover the yard?

Hint: Calculate the area of the larger rectangle, then the area of the L-shape rectangle.

Total Grass Area = Large Rectangle - L-shaped area.

Now you need to recall that 1 grass seed covers 1200 sq ft.

Final step Total Grass Area divide by 1200.Recall that your answer should be a whole number that makes practical sense.

(2) How many fence panels does she need to purchase for the fence (2 long sides and the back of the yard)?

Hint: Find the perimeter of the Large rectangle (do NOT include the front of the yard, 3 sides).Recall that each panel covers 8 feet.

The number of fence panels = modified perimeter divided by 8 (answer should be a whole number).

(3) What is the total cost of the project? Record your answer in dollar & cents.

Hint: recall that the cost for each bag of seeds is $12 and that each fence panel is $57 each.
