One of the first steps of the clinical process, regardless of theoretical background, is establishing client goals. Do not assume that because the client names a presenting problem, that is where they want to focus their therapeutic work. It is essential that you clarify the client's goals with them, including with children! Please respond to at least two questions:

• How do you establish goals with clients?
• How do you assess progress on goals?
• How and when do you collaborate on goals?
• Do you ever choose to not collaborate?
• How do you present or collaborate on goals with children or adolescents?
• How does setting goals contribute to the clinical progress and change?
