Consequences for violating the Virginia Stormwater Management Act can include fines, penalties, and requirements for corrective action. Violators may be subject to enforcement actions by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) or local stormwater management authorities.

In terms of effectiveness, the VSMA has contributed to improvements in water quality by reducing the amount of pollutants entering water bodies through stormwater runoff. 2. Increasing funding for stormwater infrastructure projects to address existing deficiencies and accommodate future development.
3. Incorporating climate resilience considerations into stormwater management planning to address the impacts of extreme weather events and sea-level rise.
4. Promoting green infrastructure approaches that mimic natural hydrological processes to manage stormwater runoff effectively.
5. Enhancing public education and outreach efforts to raise awareness about the importance of stormwater management and water quality protection.

By implementing these measures, Virginia can enhance the effectiveness of the VSMA and further protect its water resources for future generations.
