One of the objectives of the study [67] was to estimate the probability of developing lung cancer by the smoking status, based on the incidence rates of lung cancer in the Canadian population between 1987 and 1989. It was found that 17.2% of the male smokers and 11.6% of the female smokers will eventually develop lung cancer. In the non-smoker category, 1.3% of the males and 1.4% of the females will develop lung cancer. Knowing that 52.2% of the male population are smokers, and 28.4% of the female population are smokers, find the probability of developing lung cancer for males and females, respectively.
