One of the problems with wind energy is that it is not consistent, so methods to store the energy for later use are needed. One method is to use wind energy to drive pumps that pump water (or another fluid) up a hill to tank during periods of high winds. The energy can then be recovered by later releasing the water to drive a turbine that generates electricity. The average residential household in the US uses about 30 kWh electricity per day. If storage tanks could be placed on a 1000-ft hill, how much water would need to be released every day to supply the average household?
