One thing that causes my eyebrow to raise is when I hear that "everyone shops online" or "Brick and Mortar is dead".
Simply put, about 80% of all retail sales in Canada are through a physical store or another way to say it only 19.6% are online sales.
I pulled that number from a report just done last month for Canada. I know it likely surprised many of you.
So think of Covid-19, yes it has had a significant impact but consider your own lives, do you honestly buy everything online? I think not ... think grocery for just one category. When I ask many students I get 75%, 80% and even as high once as 95% of all sales are online.
So yes it is growing and will it continue to, due to several factors - our population aging and the younger more tech savvy group starts to earn more, it will definitely increase and then add in the pandemic and it is not going to slow down as we all have learned how online can be good depending what you are purchasing. That all said, nothing I have seen has convinced me Brick & Mortar is going away. So I want you to research and find a retailer that has both a store front and online presence. Analyze what type of retailer they are and describe them using concepts from this week's module.
Do you think they will be successful and why? Be critical ... that is what I need to see.
