A solid, round beam AB (D = 200 mm) is to be machined from AISI 4140 [Q&T at T=425 C (800 F)] and will be used as mounting beam to overhang a newly developed jet engine inside the static test cell as illustrated in Figure 1 where the output thrust will be evaluated by a team of propulsion engineers. The beam is fully fixed to the building's wall structure and shall have an overall length of L = 4,500 mm. Over the course of testing programme, the beam is expected to be the primary load-bearing component and under that of worst-case scenario, to simultaneously take the three stress-inducing loads from the following operational conditions: 1. the engine accurate weight, acting via its centre of gravity (cg), ME= 7,339.45 kg. 2. the propulsive output thrust, Fr= 200,000 N and, 3. the simulated impact load from landing gear at touch down, FL = 115,000 N.
