Organizing Qualitative Data - Magazine Project Instructions for Submission: Put all your work in ONE document. Use Word or other similar software for the paper. Cut and paste all tables/graphs/output from StatCrunch or Excel into the report. Do NOT use the bullet format. You must use the narrative format. Your report should be typewritten and double-spaced with one-inch margins. Be sure to add your references in APA format. As a minimum, you can use the textbook as a reference as well as the two magazines. Here is a website that will help you format the references: https://www.calvin.edu/library/knightcite/ (Links to an external site.) Be sure that the paper contains, as a minimum, the headings below. Do NOT number the headings: o Introduction o Magazine Information o Article Analysis o Article Comparison o Advertisement Analysis o Advertisement Comparison o Final Magazine Review Purpose: The purpose of this project is to demonstrate that you can identify and collect qualitative data, then organize this data into tables and graphs and use this information to make decisions. Assignment Goal: To collect qualitative data from two magazines and summarize the data in tables and graphs using StatCrunch. You will use this information to make comparisons and draw conclusions. Instructions: You will be comparing two magazines by dissecting the content and layout of each magazine. Select two magazines from the same genre that either interest you or relate to your field of study. For example, Time and Business Week or Cooking Light and Weight Watchers. Use StatCrunch to create all tables and graphs. All parts of the graphs must be clearly labeled. Cut and paste all tables and graphs from StatCrunch into a word document for your final submission. Introduction: Write four or five sentences introducing the purposes and goals of the project. Be sure to state what aspects of the magazine the narrative will discuss. Magazine Information: For each magazine, identify the following: Title of each magazine, cover price, number of articles, number of advertisements. Data Point Magazine 1 Magazine 2 Title of Magazine Cover Price Number of Articles Number of Advertisements Article Analysis: Determine 4-5 categories for the types of articles in the magazines. You will use the same categories for BOTH magazines. For each magazine, create a frequency table showing how many articles are in each category. Next, create a bar graph and/or pie chart for each magazine to display the information in your frequency tables. Article Comparison: Create a side-by-side bar graph to compare the types of articles in the two magazines. Write 2-3 sentences about what this graph is showing. For example, are the number of articles in each category in the two magazines similar or different? Advertisement Analysis: Determine 4-5 categories for the types of advertisements in the magazines. You will use the same categories for BOTH magazines. For each magazine, create a frequency table showing how many advertisements are in each category. Advertisement Comparison: Create a side-by-side bar graph to compare the types of advertisements in the two magazines. Write 2-3 sentences about what this graph is showing. For example, are the number of advertisements in each category in the two magazines similar or different? Final Magazine Review: Suppose you are asked to recommend one of these magazines. Write a short review comparing the two magazines. The data-driven review should provide enough evidence to persuade the reader to choose your recommendation. Reference the information you summarized in the tables and graphs you created in StatCrunch. The review should be 2-5 paragraphs. Please attach the review to the end of this document
