1. Oscar wants to know about the happiness (i.e., mental health) of college students on academic achievement. He collects happiness data (measured on a Likert-type scale from 1-5, 1 being low motivation, and 5 being high motivation) and student achievement data (% achievement in class, where 90% or higher is an A). He also thinks that number of extracurricular activities (i.e., organizations, clubs, sports teams) may be associated with student achievement so he collects information on that as well. He found that happiness predicts achievement when controlling for extracurricular activities(p < .05).
