OT 3 Question 3. (3+3 points) A corner reflector consists of three flat mirrors arranged like three adjacent sides of a rectangular solid-much like the coordinate planes in space. You can find them on many boats and other places (see picture). This is because corner reflectors can be used to throw back radar waves or laser beams in the exact direct they came from. Here is how: a) Assuming that a mirror is parallel to the ry-plane and the direction of an incoming ray is given by a vector 1 = (v1, 12. v3), what can you say about the direction of the outgoing ray w? b) Using a), Show that (in principle) a corner reflector bounces back any ray in exactly the same direction as where the ray was coming from. Corner mirrors also have another very nice property and that is that the path of a laser beam from the source to the mirror and back does not depend on how exactly the beam hits the mirror. Thus, corner mirrors placed on an object can be used to measure the distance between that object and the source of the beam with a high degree of accuracy. This is why NASA placed an array of corner mirrors on the moon. To this day, that array is issued to measure the distance between the earth and the moon. This second property of corner mirrors is a little bit harder to prove, so I will not ask you to show this
