Our planet is full of natural Static systems. Engineers often learn from these natural systems to
design other systems that benefit us. In addition, the static systems provide us important lessons
for our life. For example, trees are natural Static systems. Big trees, such as eucalyptus tree, has
big roots that grow in various direction. From Statics, we can learn why trees grow roots in all
directions and why they have big roots. The roots are responsible in developing reaction forces in
order to balance the force acting on the tree from different directions. The roots of the big tree
are much bigger than the small tree. Bigger trees are so heavy and have large surface area as they
have many branches and leaves, and this exposes them to a large wind force in different
directions. Consequently, they must grow big roots, in different directions to balance these
forces. Similarly, as C.S. Lewis noted, hardships often prepare ordinary people for an
extraordinary destiny... Also, James 1:2-3 says Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,
whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces
perseverance. As trees grow roots in a certain direction if they face a force in that direction,
many different kinds of trials and hardships will teach us many different types of lessons.
INSTRUCTIONS
The research paper should incorporate a Biblical worldview of some topic of a natural and static
system. You should select a static and natural system and discuss how the system is statically
stable. Support your reasoning using fundamental physics laws discussed earlier in the course.
After selecting your natural and static system, do the following:
a) Describe the structural and material components of the system.
b) Discuss about the importance of the static equilibrium condition for the functionality of
the system. Draw free-body diagrams of the system, including reaction and applied
forces. If possible, carry out a simple static equilibrium analysis (sum of forces and
moments equal zero). State any assumptions.
c) Romans 1:20 says For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his
eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has
been made, so that people are without excuse. Does the static natural system you
selected indicate the existence a supernatural being? Why or why not? Also comment on
the intelligence of the design and its benefit to humanity.
Deliverables/Expectations:
d) Your writing should be well-organized and free of grammar, punctuation, and spelling
errors. Your paper should have the following components:
Professional cover page (with title, course name, project name, university name, and
date of submission)
Summary/Abstract (standalone)
Introduction/Body
Conclusions (a standalone conclusion containing a brief summary of the paper's main
points)
