Julie negligently caused personal injury to Bob. One month later Bob, in a state of depression precipitated by his injuries, committed suicide by jumping in front of a train driven by Catherine, an employee of City Rail. As a result of this incident, Catherine suffered a psychiatric illness which rendered her unfit to work as a train driver and caused sexual problems in her relationship with her partner.
Bob is survived by his wife and two infant children. Prior to his death Bob and his wife were executive directors of and shareholders in a family company which conducted a chain of newsagencies. As a result of Bob's injury and death the family company has required the services of a full time employed manager.
