Outside of farming, there's a big push to be "debt free". Many famous people such as Dave Ramsey advocate that people get rid of all debt and purchase everything in cash (with the possible exception of a home). However, ag economics and ag financial advisers NEVER advocate this approach for farmers and often spend hours telling farmers that what works for your personal life (getting rid of debt) will not work for farming and could in fact hurt the farm. Why do you think they say this? Why is debt oftenhelpfulfor farmers?
