Over the years, the Costa Rican consumer has shown important changes in loyalty, environmental attitude, lifestyle and consumption habits, and rationalization of purchasing processes, among other factors. In order to satisfy the greatest number of needs with a limited amount of resources, consumers have proven to be less loyal to stores and brands and have focused more on taking advantage of discounts and sales. Additionally, nowadays greater importance is given to caring for the planet, so people are leaning towards sustainable products, they are more demanding and there is a greater tendency to make more rational purchases when it comes to discretionary items such as vehicles and home appliances. (Central American Data, 2024) In this context, essential goods constitute the main driver of consumption, since they are precisely all those needs that cannot be postponed, but must be satisfied in order to survive. In this way, consumption habits are directly influenced by expectations regarding the current and future economic situation. The University of Costa Rica publishes quarterly (in February, May, August and November) the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI), whose objective is to identify the level of confidence or uncertainty of consumers in order to anticipate possible consumption trends
