These are expectations of mentors: Give thoughtful and constructive feedback Offer solicited and unsolicited advice and critique Be an effective listener Respect the time and effort of others Be an effective communicator Be punctual and well prepared Follow through on commitments Take along-range view of your Mentee's growth and development Help him or her see the destination, but not provide a detailed map on how to get there Offer words of encouragement, but not "how-to" advice Learning Outcomes Appreciate the importance of developing potential managers (CLO 2, 4 and 6) Describe and distinguish types of coaching (CLO 3 and 5) Assess attitudes and skills about mentoring and coaching (CLO 2 and 4) Evaluate the results from a competency assessment, then use this information as a catalyst for professional development.
