Question:
Overview of Europe's new data protection laws (GDPR). Then review the second linked site that provides an analysis of the differences between GDPR and US data protection laws in general. (You aren't required to read the secondary link to the full article in the second link, which covers each state's privacy laws. However, if you're interested it covers individual state legislation in the field and you're welcome to comment on it here as well.)
For this board after reading the two web pages identify one or two of the biggest differences between US and European privacy laws and tell us what you think. Are the differences important? What impact might those differences have on businesses and companies? Does it matter what field the business is in in your mind? For example, will these differences you're discussing affect a company like Amazon differently than a health care provider that might have business in Europe? Why or why not? The general goal here is to explore the difference in data protection and privacy law and to consider how those differences evolved. We want to explore if the differences are something the US should try to follow or something we could not realistically adopt. For example, in the first document we see how privacy rules evolved in Europe. Do you see a difference in ethics and values there vs how we view privacy and business here in the US? What do you think?
